The Catholic University Model United Nations Conference has been created in the image of the United Nations by students motivated to share with their own and future generations the knowledge and history they have gleaned from their study of the UN.
The goal of this model United Nations is to continue the objectives of the diplomats who signed the UN Charter on 26 June 1945, paving the way for its entry into force on 24 October 1945. The Charter was written for us, one of these succeeding generations, of which there are many more to come.
As most of the people of the world remain apathetic toward the conflict that rages in numerous areas around the world, those of us who are aware of this apathy must inhibit it. It is only through the recognition and consolidation of the common bonds that tie our species together that we, the people of the global community, have any hope of creating an environment of lasting peace and progress.
There is no way to protect the world’s children from the dangers mankind has faced in the past, faces at the present, and will face in the future unless we have educated them as to the dangers of war and how to work towards its prevention.
The youth of the world must realize the benefits of instilling hope in a world so constantly devoid of this concept, which is necessary in the continuous battle for international peace and security. We must not allow the world around us to remain apathetic to the conflict which, raging in numerous areas around the world, affects all of us as we are all people alike.
The most important role of the United Nations today is that of the educator. The Catholic University Model United Nations Conference seeks to instill a sense of loyalty toward all humankind in each delegate – a sense that their responsibilities reach beyond national boundaries. Understanding among varied cultural groups must be achieved, and it is on the campus of The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC that we will continue our efforts to expend these ideals farther.
